State Housing Announces Trust Fund Awards - 9/15/2003
The Board of Commissioners for the South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority recently approved $413,707.14 in Trust Fund awards at their regular monthly meeting. These awards are for the acquisition, rehabilitation, and/or construction of 24 properties throughout Charleston, Greenwood, Greenville, Beaufort, Pickens, Richland, Fairfield, Sumter, Newberry, and Bamberg counties.
The awards are as follows:
· Charleston Bank Consortium - $15,000 for the new construction of a three-bedroom home in North Charleston to house a lower income individual above 50 percent but below 80 percent of the county median income.
· Greenwood Area Habitat for Humanity - $14,385.72 for the construction of two 3-bedroom homes located in Greenwood to be occupied by a lower income family.
· Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County - $20,000 for the construction of two 3-bedroom homes in Greenville and $20,000 for the construction of a two 4-bedroom homes located in Travelers Rest and Greer. These homes will be occupied by very low-income families at or below 50 percent of the county median income.
· Lowcountry Community Development Corporation (CDC) - $17,400 for the construction of a three-bedroom home in Bluffton and $20,000 for the acquisition of a two-bedroom home in Beaufort. Lower income families will occupy these homes.
· Pickens County Habitat for Humanity - $11,500 for the construction of a three-bedroom home in Clemson to house a very low-income family.
· Sea Island Habitat for Humanity - $40,000 for the construction of two 3-bedroom homes on Johns Island to house lower income families.
· United Methodist Relief Center - $20,000 for the acquisition of a three-bedroom home in Mt. Pleasant to be occupied by a very low-income family.
· Community Assistance Provider, Inc. - $13,072.42 for the rehabilitation of a 2 bedroom, four-bedroom and two 3-bedroom homes located in Columbia, $3,452.50 for the rehabilitation of a four-bedroom home in Ridgeway, and $3,160 for the rehabilitation of a three-bedroom in Eastover. Very low- income families or individuals will occupy these homes.
· Santee Lynches affordable Housing and CDC - $4,205 for the rehabilitation of a three-bedroom home in Olanta and $6,875 for the rehabilitation of a three-bedroom home and a four-bedroom home located in Sumter. These homes will house very low income disabled or elderly families.
· Newberry County Disabilities and Special Needs Board - $63,725 for the acquisition of a four-bedroom home in Prosperity to be occupied by very low income disabled individuals.
· Mental Health Association in S.C./Turnkey Housing Program - $140,931.50 for the construction of a four-bedroom home located in Denmark to house very low income individuals.
The Trust Fund provides financial assistance for the development of affordable housing for low to very low-income families or individuals. Proceeds awarded by the Trust Fund cannot exceed approximately 50 percent of the total development cost of the project and can only be used to serve households that are at or below 80 percent of the county median income.
