Housing Authority Makes Over $700,000 in Trust Fund Awards - 9/30/2002

[Columbia, SC] The Board of Commissioners for the South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority recently approved $710,813.98 in Trust Fund awards at their regular monthly meeting. These awards are for the acquisition, rehabilitation, and/or construction of 45 properties throughout Beaufort, Orangeburg, Sumter, Charleston, Spartanburg, Dorchester, Chesterfield, Marlboro, Berkeley, Richland, Georgetown, Bamberg, Calhoun, Greenville, Horry, Kershaw, Pickens, Clarendon, Williamsburg, and Lexington counties.

The awards are as follows:

Lowcountry Community Development Corporation (CDC) - $29,188 for the acquisition of two 3-bedroom homes located in Burton and Port Royal and $36,390 for the construction of two 3-bedroom homes in Bluffton. These homes will be occupied by lower income families above 50 percent but below 80 percent of the county median income.

Central South Carolina Habitat for Humanity - $10,150 for the construction of a 3-bedroom house in Columbia to be occupied by a very low-income family at or below 50 percent of the county median income.

United Methodist Relief Center - $42,894 for the acquisition and rehabilitation of 4 three-bedroom houses locates in Bennettsville, Mt. Pleasant, Wando, and Pageland to be occupied by very low-income families and disabled individuals. Awards of $8,800 were also made for the rehabilitation of a 3-bedroom house in St. George and $8,603 for the rehabilitation of a 6-bedroom house located in Awendaw. These homes will house low and very low-income families.

Charleston Habitat for Humanity - $55,372.52 for the construction of 3 three-bedroom homes and $40,000 for the construction of 2 two-bedroom homes. These homes, located in Charleston, will house low and very low-income families.

City of Sumter Housing & Economic Development Corporation - $4,400 for the rehabilitation of a 3-bedroom house in Sumter to house a very low-income disabled family.

Habitat for Humanity of Georgetown County - $34,500 for the construction of 3 three-bedroom houses in Georgetown and $11,500 for the construction of a 3-bedroom house in Pawleys Island. Lower income families will occupy these homes.

Sistercare, Inc. - $150,000 for the construction of a 3-bedroom shelter in West Columbia to house lower income abuse victims.

Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County - $30,000 for the construction of three homes in Greenville containing two, three or four bedrooms. Very low-income families will occupy these homes.

Santee Lynches Affordable Housing & CDC - $19,450 for the construction of 2 three-bedroom houses located in Manning and Kingstree to house low and very-low income families and individuals.

Habitat for Humanity of Horry County, Inc. - $23,000 for the construction 2 three-bedroom houses in Myrtle Beach to be occupied by very low-income families.

Charleston HomeOwnership Center - $11,500 for the rehabilitation of a 2-bedroom house in Charleston to house a very low-income elderly individual.

Habitat for Humanity of Kershaw County - $10,350 for the construction of a 3-bedroom house in Camden to be occupied by a lower income family.

Claflin College (CDC) - $18,000 for the rehabilitation of 2 three-bedroom houses located in Neeses and St. Matthews and $9,600 for the rehabilitation of a 4-bedroom house in Neeses. Lower income families or elderly individuals will occupy these homes.

Sea Island Habitat for Humanity - $100,000 for the construction of 5 three-bedroom homes on Johns Island to be occupied by lower income families.

Voorhees Denmark CDC - $15,978.69 for the rehabilitation of 3 three-bedroom homes located in Denmark to house very low-income elderly families or individuals.

Habitat for Humanity of Spartanburg, Inc - $20,000 for the construction 2 three-bedroom houses in Una to be occupied by lower income families.

Pickens County Habitat for Humanity - $11,500 for the construction of a 2-bedroom house in Clemson to be occupied by a very low-income individual.

Proceeds awarded by the Trust Fund cannot exceed approximately 50 percent of the total development cost of the project and can only be used to serve households that are at or below 80 percent of the county median income.
