Over $3 Million in Trust Fund Awards Announced by State Housing Authority - 12/21/2006
[Columbia, SC] The Board of Commissioners for the South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority approved over $3.5 million in Trust Fund awards at their recent meeting. These awards are for Homeownership Block Grants, Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation Block Grants, Owner-Occupied Major Rehabilitation, Supportive housing, and rental housing of 33 properties throughout Florence, Marion, Dillon, Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester, Allendale, Greenville, Georgetown, Horry, Sumter, Anderson, Clarendon, Lee, Kershaw, Jasper, Orangeburg, Spartanburg, Beaufort, Barnwell, Richland, Laurens, Lexington, Williamsburg, and York counties.
The awards are as follows:
Ten Homeownership-Block Grant proposals for a total of $923,000
As listed:
Pee Dee Community Action Partnership - $80,500 to assist seven families in purchasing homes in Florence, Marion and Dillon counties.
Charleston Bank Consortium - $150,500 to assist 10 families in purchasing homes located in Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties.
Allendale County ALIVE - $80,500 to assist in the purchase of seven homes located in Allendale County. Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County - $80,500 to assist in the purchase of seven homes in Greenville County.
Lowcountry Community Development Corporation (CDC) - $163,000 to assist in the purchase of eight homes in Charleston, Berkeley, and Dillon County.
Family Services - $161,000 for the acquisition of 14 houses in Charleston Berkeley, Dorchester, Georgetown, Horry and Florence counties.
Sumter County Community Development Corporation - $46,000 for the acquisition of four houses located in Sumter.
Victory Plus, Inc. - $46,000 for the acquisition of four houses in Greenville, Spartanburg, and Anderson counties.
Spartanburg Residential Development Corporation - $69,000 for the acquisition of six houses located in Horry County.
Homeownership Block Grant awards are limited to households at or below 80 percent of the area median income.

Beaufort-Jasper Economic Opportunity Commission - $155,750 for the rehabilitation of eight houses located in Beaufort and Jasper counties.
Phoenix Community Development Corporation (CDC) - $69,000 for the rehabilitation of three houses located in Orangeburg County.
Allendale County ALIVE- $155,750 for the rehabilitation of seven houses located in Allendale County.
Northeastern Corridor of Orangeburg CDC - $155,750 for the rehabilitation of seven houses located in Orangeburg County.
Higher Grounds CDC - $109,783 for the rehabilitation of five houses located in Barnwell County
Community Assistance Provider - $155,750 for the rehabilitation of seven houses located in Richland County.
Camden First CDC - $155,750 for the rehabilitation of eight houses located in Kershaw County.
Allen Temple Community Economic Development Corporation- $89,000 for the rehabilitation of six houses in Greenville County.
Laurens County Disabilities and Special Needs Board - $22,250 for the rehabilitation of one house in
Laurens County.
Brookland -West Columbia CDC - $155,750 for the rehabilitation of seven houses in Lexington County.
Santee Lynches Affordable Housing and CDC - $155,750 for the rehabilitation of seven houses located in Clarendon, Darlington, Georgetown, Lee, Kershaw, Sumter, and Williamsburg counties.
Two Owner-Occupied Major Rehabilitation Awards Totaling $54,500
Masjid as-Salaam, Inc. - $27,250 for the major rehabilitation of a home located in Columbia to be occupied by a very low income family at or below 50 percent of the county median income.
Palm land Community development Foundation - $27,250 for the major rehabilitation of a property located in Irmo to be occupied by a low-income family at or below 80 percent of the county median income.
Owner occupied rehabilitation block grants are limited to very low income households at or below 50 percent of the area median income.
Four Supportive Housing Awards Totaling $525,000

InDwellings Community Homes #1 and #2, Inc. -- $150,000 for the construction of a two seven bedroom Group Home located in Easley to house disabled individuals.
Palmetto Place Children’s Emergency Shelter - $75,000 for the rehabilitation of an existing shelter for abused and neglected children located in Columbia.
Empowered Personal Care Home Health Alliance - $300,000 for the acquisition of a three building, 42 bedroom structure located in Sumter County to be used as a residential care facility for persons with chronic illnesses.
Five Rental Housing Awards Totaling $956,375
Homes of Hope, Inc. - $44,993 for the rehabilitation of six donated manufactured homes and the relocation of each to Greenville County.
Santee-Lynches Affordable Housing and CDC -- $97,603 for the construction of two homes located in Orangeburg County to house low income individuals.
Toolbox, Inc. - $27,250 for the acquisition of a home in Columbia to provide independent living for disabled individuals.
Waccamaw Housing, Inc. - $286,529 for the construction of eight units located in Kingstree.
Rental Housing awards are limited to low and very low income individuals at or below 80 percent of the area median income.
Capital for the Housing Trust Fund is generated by the documentary stamp tax. Proceeds can only be used to serve households at or below 80 percent of the area median income and cannot exceed approximately 50 percent of the total development cost of the project.
