Housing Authority Presents Housing Achievement Awards at Statewide Forum - 2/1/2007
[Columbia, SC] The South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority announced its annual Housing Achievement Awards today during the Palmetto Housing Forum held in Columbia at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. Five awards were presented to celebrate innovation, best practices, and excellence in the affordable housing arena.
Camden Cove Apartments in Camden was recognized in the Housing Development sector; N & H Enterprises in Greenville was honored in the Organization category; the Creative Partnership award was presented to Charleston Development Academy Charter School; John C. Cone, retired executive director of the Home Builders Association of South Carolina, was recognized for his Volunteer Services, and Gracie Floyd, councilwoman from Anderson, won hands down in the Elected Official Category. A Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to William Dudley Gregorie for his more than 30 years of service in the affordable housing arena.
Authority staff developed the awards program to recognize prominent contributions to affordable housing for low and low-to-moderate income South Carolinians. Entrants must have been instrumental in creating and supporting affordable housing, implementing housing-related programs, or helping find solutions for housing problems. Another stipulation of the awards program is that the work honored was performed in South Carolina to benefit South Carolinians.
Dr. Eugene Laurent, the State Housing Authority’s executive director, presented the awards as Master of Ceremonies Craig Melvin announced the winner’s accomplishments.
