[Columbia, SC] Governor Mark Sanford has announced the appointment of John S. Hill of Columbia to the nine-member Board of Commissioners for the South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority.

Hill, a principal of Keenan Development Associates LLC since 1984, has been instrumental in the development of over $800 million of public and private sector real estate projects. He not only brings a wealth of experience in housing development to the agency, but also a strong background in the banking and energy industry.  Prior to joining Keenan, Hill served as the Senior Vice President of Citizens Southern National Bank of South Carolina and as President and CEO of Constan Incorporated, a multi-faceted energy company, based in Columbia, South Carolina.

“I am delighted that Governor Sanford has chosen to appoint me to the Board of the South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority.  I look forward to working with my fellow Board members in addressing the affordable housing needs of our citizens,” said Hill.  “With the present real estate financial markets in turmoil, it is incumbent upon the Authority to continue to expand its programs to make housing affordable for all South Carolinians,” he added.

Hill received a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of North Carolina and has done graduate work at several institutions.  His professional associations include:  the National Association of Realtors, Greater Columbia Association of Realtors, S.C. Association of Realtors, Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce and the Columbia Economic Development Commission.   Other activities include: United Way Board of Directors, Heathwood Hall Episcopal School Board of Trustees, St. Mary’s College Board of Trustees, Richland County Library Board of Directors, and the U.S.C. College of Criminal Justice Board of Trustees. He is also a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Hill and his wife, Helen, reside in Columbia and have three children.

The Authority’s Board of Commissioners establishes policy for the independent agency and oversees its operations. Hill’s term will expire in August 2008.

The Authority is a self-supporting agency of state government and operates at no cost to the taxpayers of the state.
