Affordable Housing Partners Announce Plans for 2010 Statewide Housing Forum - 12/30/2009
Registration is now available for the Palmetto Affordable Housing Forum, the only statewide meeting of its kind in the state. The Forum, scheduled for February 17-18 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, is expected to attract over 400 participants – including representatives from local, state, and federal governments, for profit and nonprofit organizations, financial institutions, social service agencies, and affordable housing advocates across the state.
The Palmetto Affordable Housing Forum is designed for the novice and experienced housing professional as well as those interested in improving the supply and condition of affordable housing in the state. Now in its 15th year, the Forum will offer South Carolinians working in the housing arena and related industries an opportunity to keep abreast of the latest developments in affordable housing while networking with their peers. In fact, it is the best option for a wide range of industry professionals confronted with similar housing challenges to network, according to Valarie M. Williams, Executive Director of the South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority, originator of the Forum. “It’s a chance for the affordable housing community to come together, share ideas, and build relationships that can help expand housing choices for South Carolinians with modest and limited incomes.”

In addition to SC State Housing, the Palmetto Affordable Housing Forum is sponsored by the Affordable Housing Coalition of SC, USDA-Rural Development, the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the SC Department of Consumer Affairs. The partners have developed a comprehensive agenda featuring timely workshops and learning opportunities on affordable housing and economic issues as well as new programs and resources. Vendor exhibits and a Legislative Networking Reception are important components of the two-day event, and this year the HOME Investment Partnerships Program Application Workshop will be held in conjunction with the Forum. Another highlight of the Forum: The recipients of SC State Housing annual awards program will be named at the conference’s Housing Achievement Awards Luncheon along with winners of the “What My Home Means to Me” essay and coloring contest.
Registration is available online at www.schousing.com and participants are urged to take advantage of the Early Bird Registration through January 17, 2010. For more information on the Palmetto Affordable Housing Forum, call 803-896-8777.
