State Housing Authority Anticipates Hurricane Rita's Demands - 9/23/2005

[Columbia, SC] The South Carolina State Housing Authority is once again making a plea to all affordable housing professionals who have not listed their properties on www.SCHousingSearch.com to do so as soon as possible. This is in anticipation of Hurricane Rita and the impact it may have for additional housing needs throughout the state.

This free, on-line listing service was activated after Katrina struck in an effort to find temporary housing for the evacuees who were forced to seek refuge in South Carolina. This site makes finding housing fast, easy, and is searchable by location, cost, and other categories. The number of properties listed to date is  approximately 225 representing over 525 units of housing and the Authority continues to get calls for placement. If Hurricane Rita continues on the same path, we anticipate more calls for housing of evacuees relocating to the state.

If you are an affordable housing professional who would like to place your properties on the website, you can go to www.SCHousingSearch.com or call toll free, 1-877-428-8844 and telling the Call Center staff that you would like to register your properties on the site.

The South Carolina State Housing Authority is a self-supporting agent of state government and operates at no cost to the taxpayers of the state. For more information, please call (803) 896-9111.
