State Housing Authority Awards Over $700,000 in Trust Fund Awards - 4/26/2004
[Columbia, SC] The Board of Commissioners for the South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority recently approved $749,692.26 in Trust Fund awards at their regular monthly meeting. These awards are for the acquisition, rehabilitation, and/or construction of 35 properties throughout Charleston, Dorchester, Greenwood, Jasper, Pickens, Beaufort, Bamberg, Allendale, Kershaw, Richland, York, Orangeburg, Florence, Hampton, Lee, Colleton, and Greenville counties.
The awards are as follows:
Charleston Affordable Housing - $21,500 for the construction of a four-bedroom home located in Awendaw and $11,500 for the rehabilitation of a three-bedroom home in North Charleston. These homes will be occupied by lower income families below 80 percent but above 50 percent of the county median income.
Dorchester Habitat for Humanity - $10,750 for the construction of a four-bedroom home in Summerville to house a very low-income family at or below 50 percent of the county median income.
Greenwood Area Habitat for Humanity - $14,385.72 for the construction of two 4-bedroom homes located in Greenwood to be occupied by very low-income families.
Lowcountry Community Development Corporation (CDC) - $20,600 for the construction of a three-bedroom home in Ridgeland and $11,500 for the rehabilitation of a three-bedroom home located in Brunson. Very low-income families will occupy these homes. An award of $21,500 was also made for the acquisition of a two-bedroom home in Hilton Head to house a lower income individual.
Pickens County Habitat for Humanity - $11,500 for the construction of a four-bedroom home located in Pickens to house a very low-income family.
Sea Island Habitat for Humanity - $80,000 for the construction of three 3-bedroom homes and one 2-bedroom home located on Johns Island. These homes will be occupied by low to very low-income families.
Voorhees Denmark Community Development Corporation (CDC) - $65,380 for the rehabilitation of two 2- bedroom homes and three 3-bedroom homes located in Denmark and $11,500 award for the acquisition of a three-bedroom home in Bamberg. Very low-income elderly or disabled individuals or families will occupy these homes.
Allendale County ALIVE - $10,235 for the rehabilitation of a four-bedroom home in Allendale to house a very low-income family.
Camden First Community Development Corporation (CDC) - $28,347.50 for the rehabilitation of three 3-bedroom homes located in Camden, Rock Hill and Lugoff and $17,250 for the rehabilitation of a four-bedroom home located in Bethune. These homes will house low to very low-income families.
Carolina Communities Foundation, Inc. - $15,247 for the rehabilitation of a four bedroom home located in Columbia and $16,495 for the rehabilitation of a three- bedroom home located in Rock Hill. Very low-income families will occupy these homes.
Claflin College Community Development Corporation (CDC) - $17,250 for the rehabilitation of a three bedroom home in Santee to house a lower income family.
Community Assistance Provider, Inc. - $11,500 for the rehabilitation of a two bedroom home in Coward and $17,260.63 for the rehabilitation of a home located in Coward. These homes will house very low-income individuals.
East Bluff Community Organization - $13,176.70 for the rehabilitation of a three-bedroom home in Columbia for a very low-income elderly individual.
Santee Lynches Affordable Housing and CDC - $21,703.22 for the rehabilitation of 2 three-bedroom homes located in Bishopville and Camden to house low and very low-income families.
United Methodist Relief center - $12,797.49 for the rehabilitation of a four-bedroom home on Wadmalaw Island to be occupied by a very low-income disabled individual.
Nehemiah Family Services – $90,000 for the acquisition of land for the construction of fourteen 3-bedroom homes in Camden to house lower income families.
Colleton Disabilities Foundation - $49,875 for the acquisition and rehabilitation of a four-bedroom house in Walterboro to be occupied by very low-income disabled individuals.
Upstate Homeless Coalition of South Carolina - $131,250 for the acquisition of a one bedroom duplex and a three bedroom house in Greenville to be occupied by very low-income homeless individuals.
Capital for the Housing Trust Fund is generated by the documentary stamp tax. Proceeds awarded by the Trust Fund cannot exceed approximately 50 percent of the total development cost of the project and can only be used to serve households that are at or below 80 percent of the county median income.
