South Carolina Housing Achievement Awards Presented at Statewide Forum - 1/9/2003

[Columbia, SC] The South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority announced its annual Housing Achievement Awards today during the Palmetto Housing Forum held in Columbia at the Adam’s Mark Hotel. Eight awards in six categories were presented to celebrate excellence in the affordable housing arena.

The Town of Lexington was recognized for the Public Sector category; there was a tie for Private Sector-Nonprofit accomplishment, with the Affordable Housing Coalition of South Carolina and the Community Housing Resource Board of Anderson receiving the honors; Developer David Douglas was recognized in the Private Sector-For Profit category; the late Frank Glogorski of Mount Pleasant was honored for Volunteer Service; the Creative Partnerships award resulted in a tie also. It was presented to the Community Development and Improvement Corporation and the City of Aiken, as well as Regency Development and the United States Tennis Association. The final award, for Housing Development, was presented to the Columbia Housing Authority for the T.S. Martin Community.

Authority staff developed the awards program to recognize prominent contributions to affordable housing for low and low-to-moderate income South Carolinians. Nomination forms specified that entrants must have been instrumental in creating and supporting affordable housing, implementing housing-related programs, or helping find solutions for housing problems. Another stipulation of the awards program is that the work honored was performed in South Carolina to benefit South Carolinians.

Dan J. Rawls, the State Housing Authority’s chairman, presented the awards as Master of Ceremonies Joe Pinner announced the winners’ accomplishments.  “We’re honored to be in your company and offer this recognition.  It is gratifying to be able to work with you in the business of making safe, decent, affordable housing a reality, not just a dream.”
