Housing Authority Announces Trust Fund Awards - 4/16/2003

The Board of Commissioners for the South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority recently approved $381,382.17 in Trust Fund awards at their regular monthly meeting. These awards are for the acquisition, rehabilitation, and/or construction of 25 properties throughout Sumter, Charleston, Orangeburg, Beaufort, Pickens, Spartanburg, Berkeley, Chesterfield, Kershaw, Marion, and Greenville counties.

The awards are as follows:

Community Assistance Providers, Inc. - $11,325 for the construction of a three-bedroom house in Sumter to be occupied by a lower income family above 50 percent but below 80 percent of the county median income.

Edisto Habitat for Humanity, Inc - $10,750 for the construction of a three-bedroom home in Orangeburg to be occupied by a lower-income family.

Garrett Academy of Technology Apprenticeship Training Education - $20,000 for the construction of a three-bedroom home in North Charleston to be occupied by a very low-income family at or below 50% of the county median income.

Hilton Head Regional Habitat for Humanity - $27,858 for the construction of three 3-bedroom homes in Bluffton to house very low-income families.

Lowcountry Community Development Corporation (CDC) - $35,649 for the construction of a two-bedroom home located in Bluffton and a three-bedroom home in Beaufort. An award of $15,692 was also awarded for the acquisition of a two-bedroom home in Hilton Head. Lower income individuals or families will occupy these homes.

Pickens County Habitat for Humanity - $11,500 for the construction of a three-bedroom home in Pickens for a lower income family.

Sea Island Habitat for Humanity - $40,000 for the construction of two 3-bedroom homes on Johns Island to be occupied by lower income families.

Spartanburg Residential Development Corporation - $11,500 for the construction of a four-bedroom home in Roebuck to house a very low-income elderly, disabled family.

United Methodist Relief Center - $33,000 for the acquisition and rehabilitation of three 3-bedroom homes in Huger, $21,220.17 for the rehabilitation of three 4-bedroom homes located in Cheraw, St. Stephens, and Pineville, and $9,400 for the rehabilitation of two 2-bedroom homes in Cheraw. Very low-income individuals or families will occupy these homes.

Santee Lynches Affordable Housing & CDC - $6,350 for the rehabilitation of two 3-bedroom homes located in Camden and Marion to be occupied by very low income individuals.

Santee Lynches Regional Council of Governments - $10,000 for the rehabilitation of a four-bedroom house in Mayesville to house a very low-income family.

Upstate Homeless Coalition of South Carolina - $118,491.50 for the construction and/or rehabilitation of two 2-bedroom homes located in Greenville to house very low income individuals.

Proceeds awarded by the Trust Fund cannot exceed approximately 50 percent of the total development cost of the project and can only be used to serve households that are at or below 80 percent of the county median income.
