Housing Authority Makes Trust Fund Awards - 5/27/2003

The Board of Commissioners for the South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority recently approved $150,085.91 in Trust Fund awards at their regular monthly meeting. These awards are for the acquisition, rehabilitation, and/or construction of 20 properties throughout Beaufort, Orangeburg, Charleston, Sumter, Greenwood, Horry, Pickens, Bamberg, Richland, Berkeley, Marlboro, and Clarendon counties.

The awards are as follows:

Nehemiah Corporation - $11,500 for the acquisition of a three-bedroom home in North Charleston to be occupied by a lower income family above 50 percent but below 80 percent of the county median income.

 Voorhees Denmark Community Development Corporation (CDC) - $3,390 for the acquisition of a two-bedroom home located in Bamberg to house a very low-income individual at or below 50 percent of the county median income.

 Greenwood Area Habitat for Humanity - $17,192.86 for the construction of two 3-bedroom homes in Greenwood to be occupied by lower and very low-income families.

 Habitat for Humanity of Horry County, Inc - $23,000 for the construction of two 3-bedroom homes in Myrtle Beach to be occupied by very low-income families.

 Pickens County Habitat for Humanity - $11,500 for the construction of a three-bedroom home in Pickens for a lower income family.

 Lowcountry CDC - $16,301 for the construction of a four-bedroom home located in Beaufort to be occupied by a lower income family.

 Claflin College CDC - $9,000 for the acquisition and rehabilitation of a three-bedroom home located in Orangeburg to house a very low-income family.

 Community Assistance Provider, Inc - $12,032.55 for the rehabilitation of three (three and four bedroom) homes located in Columbia to be occupied by very low-income individuals or families, $8,095 for the rehabilitation of two (three and four bedroom) homes located in Gadsden to be occupied by very low-income elderly individuals or families, $2,644.50 for the rehabilitation of a four-bedroom home in Hopkins to house a very low-income disabled individual, and $7,135 for the rehabilitation of a three-bedroom home in Lake City to house a very low-income elderly individual.

 Santee Lynches Affordable Housing & CDC - $3,700 for the rehabilitation of a three-bedroom home in Olanta and $4,710 for the rehabilitation of a two-bedroom home in Sumter. A very low-income elderly individual or family will occupy these homes.

 United Methodist Relief Center - $19,385 for the rehabilitation of two 3-bedroom homes located in Bennettsville and St. Stephens to house very low income disabled or elderly individuals.

                Proceeds awarded by the Trust Fund cannot exceed approximately 50 percent of the total development cost of the project and can only be used to serve households that are at or below 80 percent of the county median income.
